Matthew 25 in Real Life

In my ethics class the other night, my professor told us a story that both disturbed and challenged me.

My professor goes and gives speeches at church (I don't know about what). At one particular church he was at, he was sitting near the back. A homeless man walked in, dirty clothes, unshaven, probably hadn't bathed in days. Upon seeing this man, a member of the church escorted him out. He then stood by the door to "make sure he wanders away".

My teacher then asked us what we would have done. Just because this homeless man looks different, and smells bad, does that mean that he doesn't have the same right as we do to be in a warm building, offered a hot cup of coffee, and welcomed to the church?

I was reminded of the verses in Matthew 25, "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Griffin's Game

On New Year's Eve, Mike and I went to the Griffins game. They played the Iowa Chops. It was a great game! (No fights though...) We had amazing seats...3 rows from the ice, right by the goal net. And...the Griffins won, 6-0!!!

Breaking in the new...

Today I got to use lots of my new kitchen gadgets...
I made these donuts...
I got to use my cool new measuring cups. The Pfaltzgraff store in Holland is going out of business, and Mike's mom knew I would love these measuring cups, so she got me a set. They're nice heavy stonewear, and I love the colors too!

Next, I got to use my new KitchenAid mixer that I got from Mike's parents for Christmas and my Birthday last month. I love being able to flip the switch and it goes on it's own...no more hand mixing for me!!

This morning I ran out to Target to get a couple things. I ended up only getting one of the things I went for...plus a couple things I found along the way. I was looking in the kitchen department and of course found the clearance section. I found a 5 piece Wilton bakeware set. It has a cake pan with a cover, a round baking pan, a cookie sheet (which is what I have needed for a while), and a cooling rack. All for $10!!! So I got to use the cooling rack also.
