Makeover Monday

This is definitely one of the best lotions I have ever used.
My hands are often dry during the winter, and my job doesn't help. Between washing my hands many many times during my shift, touching wet laundry, and then touching and folding the dry laundry, my hands often get cracked and red.
And then, I discovered Winter Soft. This lotion is amazing! It's lightly scented and is a deep soothing moisturizer. I put it on after I wash my hands and before I go to bed at night. It's not greasy, and it lasts through hand washings. It really does make my skin super soft...and I don't just use it in the winter. If you have dry skin, I definitely recommend this lotion to you!

Napkin Folding

Remember a few weeks ago when I asked for ideas on what to give a speech on? I had to give my speech last Tuesday, and it went really well (I got an A!!!) I ended up demonstrating how to make a fleece tassel scarf. I was happy with how it went, and I got a lot of positive feedback from the other students in my class. We had to write down feedback and give them to each person after they presented. My teacher marked me down on my appearance...which I thought was odd, considering I thought I looked good. (I wasn't wearing my normal sweat pants and t-shirt, that I usually have on from my defense class, so I thought I was a step up) But whatever :) It was interesting listening to the other people give their speeches; they ranged anywhere from how to change a baby's diaper to how to golf to how to do an oil change. My favorite was how to fold a napkin, and I told Kat that I would give a mini lesson on my blog! It's really simple to do, and now I'm going to have to have a dinner party so I can show these off!

Step 1: Find a square cloth napkin. The starchier the fabric, the better your design will turn out.

Step 2: Fold two of the corners together to meet at the top, creating a triangle.

Step 3: Fold the left point of the triangle up to the top point.

Step 4: Fold the right side of the triangle up to the top point. Now you have a square, this is called Home Base.

Step 5: Turn your Home Base around so that the open flaps are at the bottom.

Step 6: Turn the entire napkin over, so that you no longer see the folds you have done. Fold each side of your Home Base in towards the center, overlapping slightly.

Step 7: Fold the bottom of your napkin up to the center to meet the other 2 folds.

Step 8: Flip your napkin over again, so you see the side with only the fold down the center.

Step 9: Fold the edges of the napkin down, creating a collar look.

I added a bow-tie for added charm, but it is totally optional. You can tuck the eating utensils into the the bottom, or put candy in it, or whatever suits your fancy :)

Make-Over Monday

I've decided to start something new on my blog. Every Monday, I'm going to have "Make-Over Monday"! I want to focus on some of my favorite products, probably one each Monday. You're more than welcome to recommend products or suggest ones for me to write about, or join in on your blog! I haven't decided exactly what my vision for this new "event" is, so we'll have to have fun together as it evolves.

I've noticed lately how many make-up and beauty products I have, and now that I'm a Certified Beauty Advisor and Avon rep, I thought it would be fun to do this. After all, what could be better to write about than something I have a ton of and a ton of knowledge about?!?!

I thought I'd let you take a glimpse into my beauty stash...and maybe get an idea of some of the products I'll be talking about!

See all the Avon products on the bottom shelf? Those my favorites and they get used every day!

And some of my hair care products

I have an entire dresser drawer of all kinds of make-up!

And now my first featured product!!!

This is one of the most recent products I've added to my collection. Cosmetologists recommend that you replace your mascara every three months. That is about how long mine lasts anyway. I had just finished my other tube, and I decided to try something new. It's Avon's newest mascara...Spectra Lash. It's really neat! It has a dial and you can choose 1, 2, or 3. 1 is full, 2 is fuller, and 3 is fullest! It's really handy how I can customize my own look!

Fight FOCA

We got a flier about this in our mailbox at church today, and I wanted to share it with you because I feel it is important!!

FIGHT FOCA
The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) endangers women and silences the voices of everyday Americans.

President Barack Obama has promised Planned Parenthood that one of his top priorities as President will be to sign the "Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA) into law.

FOCA would eliminate every restriction on abortion nationwide.

*FOCA will do away with state laws on parental involvement, on partial-birth abortion, and on all other protections.
*FOCA will compel taxpayer funding of abortions.
*FOCA will force faith-based hospitals and healthcare facilites to perform abortions.

Barack Obama believes this legislation will "end the culture wars". Tho him, "ending the culture wars" means eradicating every state and federal law on abortion-laws the majority of Americans support.

You can help stop FOCA. Visit www.FightFOCA.com and join the 692,651 (that was me!!) people who have signed the online Fight FOCA petition so far.

SEM

Since September, I have been going to SEM with Mike. SEM is Special Education Ministries, and we do it at Mike's church every Thursday night. Mike has been doing SEM for 5 years, and because I am at his house on Thursday nights, he invited me to come with him. Basically, we go and spend an hour with a special needs student. We start out with a group prayer time, then the leaders do a Bible story, we break off into one-on-one time with our student, and then come back for a time of praise and worship. When I first started, I would go with Mike and his student Brian. In January, one of the tutors moved away, and I was asked if I would do my own student, I agreed, so I have been working with Alice since then. It's a blast watching everyone each week. Some weeks we have special events, like square dancing, puppet shows, carnivals, or sing alongs. A few weeks ago, a group from another church came in and sang some Christian parodies of other songs. It was really fun! It really has been a blessing to be a part of SEM and I really encourage you to find out if there is a ministry like this in your area, and if there is, to find out how you can help them!

One year ago today...

A year ago today, I got an email that read something like, "if your cool with it i think we can start telling pple that we are going out :)" To which I quickly responded, "yeah, i'm cool with it...it's about time! lol" And that was the beginning of "Mike and Melissa". I can't believe it's been a year already! Sometimes it feels like we've known each other for a lot longer than 14 months (we were friends 2 months before we started dating), because we know so much about each other and we're such good friends. That's one thing I love most about Mike, that we're friends first. So I thought I would share some pictures of us over the past year.

Our very first picture together

Josh and Dani's Wedding!!!

On Saturday, two of my good friends, Dani and Josh, got married. They had a beautiful wedding! It was really fun for me, because I was Dani's Maid of Honor, so I got to be involved in a lot of the wedding planning and wedding day activities. It was also fun for Mike and I because Josh and Dani are the first of our friends to get married.

Mike was sneaky and took this picture of the bridal party when we were lined up to walk into the sanctuary.
