The day has arrived...

As I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord His deer to keep. If I should die before I wake , tell the deer they are finally safe

Yep...you guessed it, Thursday is opening day of gun hunting season. I myself have never been hunting, but I have a lot of friends who will be out at the crack of dawn tomorrow sitting in a blind or a tree, waiting for the perfect deer to come along. So I am praying for their safety, their success, and the safety of those of us who are driving, as deer are more apt to run across roads to get away from the hunters!

A HUNTER'S PRAYER
Dear Lord,

May all hunters be blessed with your grace.

To all who wander the fields and forests, may you guide them safely back to camp.

Thank you for the blessings of venison meat. Let the hunters always remember it is a gift from you.

Thank you also for the hunting knowledge, fellowship and outdoor experiences you give the hunters. May they always remember these blessings from you.

Amen.

  1. That is a really nice thought Melissa. We do need to pray for safety for everyone since deer do seem to like to like to jump in front of cars instead of getting hunted. It's also a good reminder for the hunters to thank God. I think some of them can get a little too caught up in the whole "KILL KILL KILL!" thing, and they forget the reason that God provided them in the first place. That's a nice prayer.

  2. Yup- Mark's out there right now- hopefully not freezing to death!
I saw a deer hit close to home already this morning. I hate that part of it.

  4. I like that prayer. I am driving carefully, watching for deer. I get a little jumpy this time of year - I've hit 3 deer in my life and don't want it to happen again.

  5. Thoughtful Prayer Melissa! It is a wonderful opportunity to be able to hunt and acknowledge God's goodness in providing for you and your family. I love to that it gives our guys time to "Be Still and Know" our in God's nature.
